First Responder COVID-19 Presumption Legislation to be Voted on

04.06.2020 Written by: Henningson & Snoxell, Ltd.

Thank You!

To everyone who signed and forwarded this petition, thank you very much.

We received word today that after 33,000 of you used this platform to show your support for this issue, the legislature plans to convene on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, to pass the workers comp presumption for emergency responders we had been seeking.  And the Governor has told us he is anxious to sign the bill.

The bill’s authors, Sen. Jeff Howe and Rep. Dan Wolgamott deserve a great deal of credit, as do their colleagues, Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka, Senate President Jeremey Miller, House Speaker Melissa Hortman and Majority Leader Ryan Winkler.  While you who signed this petition got the ball rolling, these six legislators were integral in pushing it over the finish line. And Governor Walz deserves a great deal of credit for offering to act by executive order to get the deal done if the legislature was unable to come to terms.

Seeing these state leaders work together to reach a deal that protects our front line emergency responders is further proof just how important it is that we support the people on the front lines of the battle against this pandemic.

Stay tuned for a report tomorrow on the final vote.
